Thanks for that. We're having a big potluck party this week, kind of for Christmas I guess and I've been trying to find something special to take.. found some awesome ideas at this potluck recipe site. You know, someone should invent a website where you can write what you'll be taking, and it would check no one is bringing the same thing!

Indeed, bringing an author to your school, library, or community event is a great way to celebrate International Literacy Day!

p.s. Jennifer, I am really enjoying this blog.

I have been using my math skills while renovating our kitchen. During the planning stages, I needed to measure and draw my plans to scale using a tape measure and graph paper so I could see what cabinets could fit in what spaces. Even when shopping for my new appliances, I needed my tape measure at the store and at home to check on sizes that would fit! Most recently I was measuring for a backsplash and drawing the tile sizes on graph paper to make the design. When the square tiles were turned into diamond shapes, I even had to check my geometry to calculate the hypotenuse for the amount of tiles to order!!! Math is a very useful skill to have.

I love Math! I love to recognize the patterns, to see how precisely and logically everything in our world is organized. Five little girls live in my home and not a day goes by that we do not have a "mathematical" discussion. "How big am I now?" "How old will I be in 2 years?" " May I have 1/2 an apple?" Most games and other activities are applications of math principles. Math is fun.

I always like to try new recipes and am constantly adjusting the size of the recipes. I use my superbe mathematics skills to calculate the volume of the ingredients when I either increase or decrease the size of the recipe.
